Lesson 9 – Adding an inset map and extent markers in QGIS

Often we have a perfectly good map but our end user may not be familiar with the region that we’re working in. At times like this, it can be useful to add an inset map which shows a wider area than our main map. We can show exactly where our main map is on this inset map by using outline extents.
We’ve used the map that we created in lesson 4 but you can use the map we created in lesson 8 or any other map you want. The data used are available to download for free from: https://diva-gis.org/gdata. DMAD in no way created or owns this data. They are just there so they are easier to find.
